This guide will show you how to root the LG Optimus L90.

Disclaimer: FlexiSPY is not responsible for rooting the Android device in any way. Before performing any of these steps make sure you back up your Android device completely.

What is needed to root the LG Optimus L90?

This Sony device can actually be rooted using the device itself.  This means that you only need the LG Optimus L90 that you wish to root in your hand, unlike other Android phones this phone can be rooted without needing a PC.

Step 1 – Enable the installation of unknown sources

Rooting the LG Optimus L90 requires the use of the towelroot rooting software.  This is software that you must download and run on the phone itself.  Before you can do this however you need to enable the installation of unknown sources.

On the phone itself go to Settings > Security and tap the Unknown Sources option (make sure it is checked).

Step 2 – Download PurpleDrake

Now that you have enabled the installation of unknown sources it is time to root the phone by downloading PurpleDrake.  You can download it from here.  Save the file to an easy to find location on your PC and extract it to its own folder.

Step 3 – Root the phone

You now need to connect the device to your PC and browse to the folder you extracted in step 2 and run the purpledrake_windows.bat file.  Follow the instructions to root the device.

Once the device has been rooted you must then use the device and go to the Play Store and download and install SuperSU.  Once you have done that open and run SuperSU and let it update itself if asked.

Once this has been done you should successfully have root access on the LG Optimus L90.

It should be noted this will not work if you are using the latest software (D41510e) from T-Mobile/LG.

      Hello ScottJL.

Unfortunately you are correct although the steps were fully working at the time of writing. We will update the guide accordingly and we thank you for bringing this to our attention.

My phone has this software version.Has there been an update to fix this so that i can root my phone?

        1. FlexiSPYBlog Avatar

          Hello Chris.

In this guide for rooting the LG Optimus L90 we have updated it to now use the PurpleDrake root tool which, at the time of writing, should root your device. In the past we have written this guide for other rooting methods for this device but neither of them now work and PurpleDrake is the only known root method so please try that.

          Thanks for contacting us

      Hello Chhkk.

There is a new root method for this device which uses a new rooting towel. Towleroot no longer works on certain firmware versions.

We will update the guide accordingly.

It recognizes my phone but won’t boot into recovery its just a black screen with other methods and purple drake says no vulnerability mode

        1. FlexiSPYBlog Avatar

          Hello Virgil.

Who is the network provider of the TARGET device? We ask this because some network providers, e.g. T-Mobile lock their devices and stop them from being able to boot in to recovery in which case, if this applies to you, then sadly there is nothing more that can be done and that device cannot be rooted.

          Thanks for contacting us.
