What is needed to root the Samsung Galaxy S3 SCH-I535?

In order to root the Samsung Galaxy S3 SCH-I535 you will need the following.

  • The Samsung Galaxy S3 SCH-I535 you want to root in your hand.
  • A PC.

Step 1 – Download the USB drivers for the Samsung Galaxy S3 SCH-I535 for your PC

In order for your PC to recognise the Samsung Galaxy S3 SCH-I535 as part of the rooting process you first must download and install the USB drivers on to your PC.

You can download the USB drivers for the Samsung Galaxy S3 SCH-I535 from here.

Once you have downloaded them run the main program file to make sure the drivers are installed.

Step 2 – Download the Samsung Galaxy S3 SCH-I535 root file

You need to flash a root file to the device using Odin from step 2.

You can download the file from here.

Save it to an easy to find location on your PC such as your desktop and extract it to its own folder.

Step 3 – Enable USB debugging on the Samsung Galaxy S3 SCH-I535

In order for your PC to recognise the Samsung Galaxy S3 SCH-I535 when you plug it in to perform rooting you must first enable USB debugging on the phone itself. This is done by doing the following.

  2. Tap the About Phone option.

Simply connect the device to your PC using the USB cable and tap OK on the device when prompted.

On your PC browse to the folder from step 2 you extracted the root file to and run the install.bat file and then follow the steps that appear to root the device.

Once the device is rooted it will reboot and you will now see the SuperSU icon which shows that the device has been successfully rooted and you can disconnect it from your PC.

Note: If, after rooting the device, you see the message ‘SuperSU has stopped’ you need to download and install the latest version of SuperSU on to the device.

To do that follow these steps:

  • Download the latest version of SuperSU from here and save it on your PC to the desktop.
  • Connect your device to your PC and copy the SuperSU file you just downloaded to the device in an easy to find location such as the Downloads folder.
  • Disconnect the device from the PC and run the SuperSU file you just copied to it (you may need to install a File Manager program from the Play Store to do this). This will install the latest version of SuperSU.

Once installed open SuperSU and let it update its binary and you are all finished.

      Hello Zephyr.

We are sorry to hear you are having issues.

Have you installed ADB on your PC correctly as it will be needed to perform the rooting process?

Looking at the picture you gave us it says ‘device not supported’. Can you give us all the details of the device (model number, OS, carrier, baseband) from the device and we will look in to this further for you.

      Thanks for contacting us.

          Hi Zephyr40K,

It looks like the bootloader on your phone cannot be unlocked. Meaning that your phone cannot be rooted.

are there any other workarounds i can try? any way to unlock the bootloader?

            Hello Zephyr40k.

That method will not work. Those steps are part of how to root the Samsung Galaxy Nexus phone. They are nothing to do with the Samsung Galaxy S3. Unfortunately, for now, you are stuck with the locked bootloader.

            Thanks for contacting us.

OK, I installed ADB on my pc and ran it, and then attempted rooting again, but got the exact same error message. Please help.

It’s looking like your bootloader is locked by Verizon, and no one has been able to develop a method of unlocking it yet. Perhaps if it gets an Android 5.0 upgrade, there will be a method, but can’t be sure.
