Is FlexiSPY Really Surreptitious?

The heart of the indictment against StealthGenie revolves around being “surreptitious”. What the legal definition of this term is, and how it applies to software is not yet clear, but this article will describe a FlexiSPY feature that allows you to avoid being accused of this.

FlexiSPY gives users the choice of whether or not they wish to display the application icon according to their needs by allowing them to choose to run the software in the foreground or not to be visible.

Here you can see that the user is given an option to display FlexiSPY
Here you can see that the user is given an option to display FlexiSPY on an iOS device.

For example a parent may wish to hide the icon on their child’s phone to stop the child from getting around family rules by using a new phone or formatting the phone and removing the software.

An employer may wish to hide the icon to preserve screen real estate.

And our law enforcement customers would choose to hide the icon to help catch a suspect.

Whatever the reason for hiding the icon, this option for visibility is a feature that FlexiSPY has always had.

In this example of FlexiSPY on an Android phone, visibility options are clearly available.

We recommend using this feature and always run the software in the foreground if you are in the US however the software can be hidden with laws permitting.

FlexiSPY respects the USA, its laws, and its enforcement agencies and is doing everything it can to make sure that its software remains compliant and legal.

Although I understand the reason for this option, I’m not sure I would want to use your app if there was a possibility of the app accidently switching to this mode (say after a crash or a software update, or being switched on remotely at a later date?).

    1. FlexiSPYBlog Avatar

      Hi Theodore,

The visibility option is one of many options that FlexiSPY has, and is thoroughly tested. While we understand your concern, all software has options, and FlexiSPY is no different. We can only say that we test this, like all other options, and are confident that there are no problems, However, in the final analysis, you have to make that decision for yourself, as only you can evaluate the consequences of failure.

Does this mean that if you choose the app to be hidden, the phone’s user would still be able to see the app in their downloads folder or any where else on their phone? For ex. application manager on an android?

        1. FlexiSPYBlog Avatar

If you choose to run FlexiSPY in hidden mode, there will be absolutely no trace of the software -but only if the phone has been rooted first-

If the phone IS NOT rooted and you choose to run FlexiSPY in hidden mode, then only the icon is hidden. The app itself will appear under a discreet name in the application manager.

Can I ROOT the phone to INSTALL Flexispy so that it is in the hidden mode and after installation, UNROOT the phone ? My concern is that my son will know that I had rooted his phone as he is quite good as these tech stuff.

          2. FlexiSPYBlog Avatar

            Hello Yi.

You can unroot an Android phone through the SuperSU application. However if you do this then our software may no longer work as intended.

The easiest thing to do is root the phone and then hide the SuperSU icon to make sure no traces of the rooting process are evident on the device.

You can read more about rooting and our software at the link below.

Do you root the android even you got the basic package no call intercept or ambient listening? This call intercept and ambient do you need to root the phone? Rooting of Samsung 5s is quite long. How long it takes to root?

          4. FlexiSPYBlog Avatar

            Hi Marn,

We always recommend that you root the device for best results.

But for basic functions, the device doesn’t need to be rooted, and this includes ambient recording – However, call interception does require rooting.

You can read more about how to perform rooting via the link below –

What if the target phone has a anti-virus installed? They can define the software as a virus and alert the user?

    1. FlexiSPYBlog Avatar

      Hello Jota.

If you root the Android TARGET device before installing FlexiSPY then, after you have installed and activated the software on to the device all traces of the software are hidden which means that it will not be detected by any antivirus program.

Am I correct in understanding that you do NOT need to root an android for ambient listening?

    1. FlexiSPYBlog Avatar

      Hi Hope,

You are correct, that you do NOT need the root. But, without the root, you’re limited to recording 15 minutes at a time.

Not really a biggie, just wanted to be upfront with you.

      Best Regards

all of my kids are tech savoy and have Iphone 5c with 8.1.2 IOS. I would like to install and have no trace of the program for them to see. Also have 2 ipads. It is my understanding that I would have to jailbreak all of the items and install the program then it would be hidden. but what happens when the new ios update comes out

    1. FlexiSPYBlog Avatar

      Hi Rodney,

There are many Cydia tools you can use to make sure that iOS doesn’t update. You can read more about those tools through the following link – blog.flexispy.com/keep-ios-8-1-jailbreak-three-ways/

If it is not rooted. Will it show up on an antivirus app. Also if the target phones requires an update on either android software or system software. Will it be visible after updates.? (Rooted or not rooted)

    1. FlexiSPYBlog Avatar

      Hello Menme.

On a non-rooted device you can hide the icon from being visible but, for best results, and to hide the application from Application Manager you must first root the device and then install our software. The software will not get picked up by antivirus and again, to be sure, rooting the device first means that the software is completely hidden from absolutely everything and anything. If the device has a software update then the software will remain hidden, it will not be made visible.

For more information on rooting please see the page below.

    1. FlexiSPYBlog Avatar

      Hello Emad.

During the installation process of FlexiSPY, you are asked if you wish to hide the software icon or not. If you choose to hide it you can later contact FlexiSPY Support who will assist you in remotely getting the software icon to become visible.

Yes, you’ll be able to use the app in Turkey.

But, you are limited to one phone per license.

I recently installed flexispy without rooting the phone first. Is there a way to uninstall the program, root the phone and then re-install it?

    1. FlexiSPYBlog Avatar

      sure,

      inside your portal, go to:

Help – > Reference Manuals – > Uninstallation and deactivation and follow the steps presented.

Once done, root the device, and if the rooting was successful, log back in to your online portal and follow the install wizard.

Hi, when I uninstall the app from one device to install at another one what should I do. If I want to install at the first device again do I need to make all the install process again or is there a way of just reactivate?

    1. FlexiSPYBlog Avatar

You must deactivate and uninstall the software from one TARGET device to be able to then physically download, install and activate on to a new TARGET device using the same license code.

Full details of how to do this can be found under Help > Reference Manuals > Uninstallation and Deactivation inside your online account.

How long would rooting a galaxy s4 take? Would I have to deactivate lookout software he installed to not be traced of found?

    1. FlexiSPYBlog Avatar

The S4 (depending on what Android version it is,) would only take 1-2 minutes to root.

      Here’s a tool for rooting it – https://towelroot.com/

When you install FlexiSPY, there might be a notification immediately from the security app, if that’s the case, you just mark it as approved. If the phone is rooted though, it shouldn’t show that notification.

It would be great if you can direct me to a site describing step by step on how to root the phone and how to deactivate lookout software

  14. FlexiSPYBlog Avatar

If it’s rooted and running in full-mode then it’ll be completely invisible if you choose the -hide application- button. Otherwise, you might have to add an exception for FlexiSPY when the anti-virus message pops up.

  15. FlexiSPYBlog Avatar

You’ll need to have access to the iPhone. The iPhone also needs to be jailbroken and you’ll need to be able to get past the lockscreen.

Does flexspy consume a lot of the battery life of the phone? Mspy was terrible with that almost got caught.

We built FlexiSPY with battery life preservation as one of our priorities. You even have the option to change how frequently data is uploaded.. I’m sure you’ll be pleased compared to mSpy – Dakota

What are the pros and con’s when rooting a phone and will the rooting app show or can it be hidden?

    1. FlexiSPYBlog Avatar

When you root the phone you will be unlocking advanced features like IM capturing, and Password Cracker. You can see a full compatibility list by following these steps (Head to our features compare page -> select FlexiSPY EXTREME -> for Platform, choose Android -> Click Compare). On the page that you are brought to after clicking compare, you will see a chart with a list of our features. Those features that have an R next to them are features that require rooting.

And yes, after rooting the phone, you can hide all traces of the root.

  19. FlexiSPYBlog Avatar

Yes, unfortunately there are new rooting tools that are computer independent.

  20. FlexiSPYBlog Avatar

    Hi Nina,

You can certainly try using towelroot – https://towelroot.com/

There’s also a paid service that you can use. All you need is your wifi and the phone. You can contact them here – http://www.spyphonereview.com/recommends/perfectroot/

    Hi thereal,

IF the target device is not rooted, then there is a chance that it can be disabled by anti-virus software, we detail this in the installation manual..

A workaround if the device is not rooted would be:

    1) Uninstall any anti-virus software before installing FlexiSPY (but obviously anti-virus could later be reinstalled which might disable
    FlexiSPY)
    2) So, if a workaround would be to add FlexiSPY as an exception (aka Whitelist) during installation.

If you really want FlexiSPY to be un-installable by the phone user, you should root the device first and make sure that FlexiSPY is running in full mode on the rooted device. You can see if FlexiSPY is running in full mode during installation..

  22. FlexiSPYBlog Avatar

    Hi,

    Good question!

If you choose the option to hide the SuperSU Icon during installation then the SuperSU icon will be hidden. There is also an option to hide the FlexiSPY icon.

But, if the user were to download a Root Checking Application then it’d say that the device has been rooted.

    Hope this helps.

  23. FlexiSPYBlog Avatar

    Hi Abhishek,

On an unrooted device you can only hide the software icon – nothing else..

If the software runs in Full-Mode on a rooted device then you can hide the software icon as well as the listing in the Application Manager menu. Please understand that there are no guarantees that the software willl run in Full Mode on a a rooted device. This often times depends on the root method used among other things, so no guarantees.

Can i install the software on more than one device (not at the same time) just wanna know

    1. FlexiSPYBlog Avatar

Hey Ehab, to install FlexiSPY on more than one device, you’ll need to purchase more than one license. Hope this helps!

  25. FlexiSPYBlog Avatar

Thanks for your questions. FlexiSPY is completely hidden if it is installed on a rooted Android phone or an iOS Jailbreak device, such as an iPhone or iPad. If the phone is not rooted, FlexiSPY will be visible in the application manager of the phone, under a discrete name.
