  Rooting the phone before installing our software is the only way to get root only features such as IM capturing (Facebook, LINE, Viber etc.) or the ability to listen in to live calls.

  If the S5 you want to use is running 4.4.2 and is rooted, then it’s compatible. However if it’s running 4.4.4, we can’t guarantee that it’ll run without issues as we’re still developing compatibility for 4.4.4.

  Internet is not needed in any way to listen in to a live call. This feature works by the software sending an SMS message to the MONITOR phone (your phone number) whenever the TARGET phone makes or receives a call.
  
  As soon as you receive that SMS notification on your own phone you immediately call the TARGET device to listen in.

  For installation you will need a SIM card in the device which you physically want to install the software on to as well as a working internet connection.
  
  In your situation, you would need to use your own SIM card to install and activate the software and then remove it once done so that you can then give the phone as a gift as you are requesting.
